If you’ve ever felt like bilingual learning could maybe overwhelm your little one, you’re not alone. A lot of parents pause before they pick a French immersion preschool, kind of worried about tangled words, or some delayed talking. but the real truth is, research says something else entirely.
Kids’ brains are basically set up to take in more than one language at the same time, often with much more ease than adults assume. What can seem like “confusion” (like mixing French and English words inside one sentence) is usually just a normal phase of bilingual development, it’s called code-switching. This part tends to fade out on its own as children get steadier and more confident with both languages.

So, is bilingualism really holding kids back, or helping them thrive?
Many of the studies show that bilingual children are more apt to have higher problem solving skills, better concentration, and more memory than monolingual children. It is therefore important that a quality bilingual program helps children to reach their full cognitive potential. The bilingual program is not just to learn two languages but to aid in overall cognitive flexibility in children.
At French Elite Montessori we strive to develop a strong French Immersion daycare program that is both fun and structured.
We aim to encourage children to learn French in a real life situation without putting too much pressure on them. The children at our preschool thrive in an environment where they can explore and learn in a hands on way. It is not uncommon for a child to enter kindergarten speaking two languages fluently and holding their own in both languages with confidence.
