What is a French Immersion Preschool?

A French immersion preschool is a setting in which children are immersed in the French language all day long. French is not taught but is learned through conversations, routines, and activities. Children do not memorize words but learn as they did with their first language, through listening, watching and slowly starting to talk with confidence. A Natural, Soft Process. That is why so many families prefer real French immersion at the early stage. It is not about pressure or performance, it is about exposure, consistency and confidence. When children are exposed to a French-speaking environment at an early age, the language becomes familiar, then comfortable, and finally, a part of them.

Why Choose French Immersion for Your Child

The early years are very important for language learning. Young children have what Montessori calls an “absorbent mind” — they easily take in everything around them, especially language.

At this age, children are able to:

Easily adapt to new sounds

Develop natural pronunciation

Start speaking without hesitation

Because of this, learning French at an early age feels natural rather than like formal studying.

Our Montessori French Immersion Approach

French Elite Montessori (FEM) is a blend of natural French immersion and authentic Montessori learning. Children are allowed to discover, choose and learn through practical experiences and teachers act as guides and not dictators. This develops self-reliance, self-confidence and a real passion to learn. French is an element of classroom life. The language is heard and used by children in routines and interactions, and English support is provided to make them feel safe. Children learn first, and then start to talk naturally and with confidence, just as they did with their first language.

French as a Second Language — A Lasting Advantage

French as a Second Language - A Long-term Benefit. French is among the official languages of Canada and a true asset in the future. Early start enables children to develop into the language naturally, gaining confidence and opening the doors in education and beyond. It is also a perfect starting point of families who see their child furthering his/her French education since Grade 1 and further. At FEM, children do not simply learn French, they develop confidence to succeed in the bilingual future of Canada.

What Families Experience

It is natural that families, particularly those who do not speak French at home, come with a couple of questions. What will their child do? Will they understand? However, soon those concerns start to dissipate. Children start to learn, engage, and communicate, usually earlier than anticipated, through daily activities, songs, movement, and hands-on Montessori materials (including early math with concrete figures). Parents begin to see little yet significant changes: following instructions, word recognition, attempting new phrases and most importantly, becoming more confident and independent. With time, it becomes apparent, it is not only about learning French, but about a child flourishing.
